Katwal (the messenger) are the media of remote areas. In past there were not any mass media like radio, television, newspaper, email, internet at that time they are used to send message to all over the village and cities.
They used to get message and informs all by standing in central point. They can shout sharply. Usually they climb in high hill and says message in loud sound, which all can listen. When they appear on hill all the villagers listen them carefully. They get message and do as message. In past, they were only the means of message.
Now a day’s also they are very popular in remote areas. Now they used to spread message of village development committee to the villagers. In some places they play music to make alert and say message, but in many places they say directly.
