This video is from Wami VDC, Gulmi district, it was taken on the occasion of chhaiti (6th day of child’s birth). In Hindu religion there are many celebrations of a person from birth to death. When a new child comes in a family in 6th day family celebrates chhaiti, on 11th day celebrates naming ceremony, and on six month celebrates feeding ceremony.

6th day ceremony is very important because it is believed on that day god writes the karma for new born child. Family burns light whole night on that day. Family keeps copy and pen on the bed of new born child to get good karma. Relatives also gather and blesses for the new born child. They give gifts for new child. It’s very happy moments for the family. So they organize music and food to enjoy. Especially they organize panche baja whole day and Bhajan (religious music) whole night. People celebrates 6th day by singing and dancing on panche baja and on Bhajan. In past if the male child born family used to celebrate chhaiti because at that time male child is very important, but now it’s equal. Family celebrates chhaiti either male child born or female child. In past family desires male child to take care of parents on old stage because girls goes their husband’s house after marriage. But now its change, people do not discriminate between boys and girls.
